A long-time motorcycle enthusiast, Henry also worked part time for nearly 20 years as a safety instructor and training center manager for the Maryland Motorcycle Safety Program. This work earned him several awards from professional and community groups.

Henry spent many years as a volunteer and task force member for Ride for Kids, the fund-raising arm of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. As ride leader, he laid out and secured state and local police permits so hundreds of motorcyclists could tour a 50- to 65-mile route.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Potomac Area Technology and Computer Society in Fairfax, VA.

In volunteer work for the Jewish Council of the Aging of Greater Washington, Henry teaches adults over 50 about Windows and Microsoft Word. In 2017, the council honored him as their volunteer of the year.

Henry is an ardent photographer whose photo, “Bull Elk on the Madison” was named best in show at two exhibits in the Montgomery County, Md., area. His photos are available for online viewing at www.henrywinokur.com.

Henry grew up in Washington, D.C. He earned a bachelor’s degree in special studies at Cornell, where he played varsity soccer and worked on the Cornellian, Royal Purple, and for the public relations office. For his senior thesis he made archival photographic prints of over 100 black-and-white glass slide-plates owned by the Iowa Historical Society. The resulting images were displayed in the Capitol in Des Moines.

“Cornell provided me with friends who have been friends for more than 50 years,” he wrote. “I’m a big believer in giving back, so I want to do things for Cornell where I can.” Henry’s wife, Stephanie Bernstein, is a rabbi at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, Va.
